Between golden beaches, water sports, nature hikes, and lively evenings, you won’t be short of activities in southern Spain. Whether you enjoy relaxing in the sun, enjoying tapas by the sea, or exploring incredible landscapes, this region has it all.

But beyond all that, you may have already wondered: what places to visit on the Costa del Sol? One of the best ways to discover the soul of this region is to visit its most iconic cities.

In this post, we’ll take you on a journey through the urban must-sees of the Costa del Sol, combining culture, history, and Andalusian charm.

Granada

First of all, you can go to GRANADA, which is only 220 km from Duquesa, so allow about 2 hours and 15 minutes by car. There are so many treasures to see in this city at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, such as the Alhambra, a fortified city located on the Sabika hill (tip: book your tickets in advance because few visitors without reservations can access it). This city will seduce you with its charming little streets and its churches, each as spectacular as the next.

Sevilla

Then, SEVILLE, is also a must-see on the Costa del Sol, both for its buildings such as its university, formerly the Carmen tobacco factory, its cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its squares, especially the Plaza de España! Let’s not forget the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions and the Archaeological Museum, which are true masterpieces. At the covered market called the Triana Market, you can find a multitude of small stalls selling fresh fruit and clothing.

Ronda

Also, the city of castles called RONDA is worth a visit! This city, located barely an hour from Duquesa, is characterized by its separation into two parts (old and modern) due to an impressive ravine. This splendid city hides many treasures! Let’s start with its bullring which is among the oldest in Spain! It is used every year at the beginning of September for the traditional Feria Goyesca. The old Arab baths, exceptionally preserved for centuries, will leave you speechless! Also worth seeing are the Church of Santa Maria la Mayor, the Palace of the Marquis of Salvatierra and the palace and gardens of the Moro for a romantic stroll in the old town.

Tarifa

Take the time to visit TARIFA if you are a fan of water sports and sailing such as kitesurfing (a board pulled by a kite). This city is also the starting point for crossing the ocean and escaping for a day on African soil. Tarifa is connected to the African continent, especially the city of Tangier, thanks to a ferry service. You can therefore change continents in 35 minutes for an approximate cost of 40 euros per crossing.

Málaga

Finally, stop by MALAGA, which is only a short hour’s drive away, 100 km. Just for its architecture (cathedral, museum), its food, its cultural events such as its jazz festival in November, its concerts or theatrical performances with the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, the detour is worth it. Also not to be missed: the Picasso Museum, entirely dedicated to the painter Pablo Picasso born in this city in 1881.
